Everyme gets Web, Android-friendly and declares war on your bulky social network

everyme-screenshot

Everyme continues its hunt for the Facebook detractors with its new Android app, beefed up iOS app, and Web availability.

Facebook alternative EveryMe launched last month, introducing us to its very Path-like user interface and emphasis on grouping contacts. The then mobile-only app set itself apart from the pack a bit with its sophisticated system for created groups automatically.

Now Everyme is expanding to Android as well as the Web, and launching a better attack to grab Facebook cynics. According to Everyme, it has amassed 400,000 within the past month, and it wants to build on that momentum. “Everyme’s …

Samsung Smartphones Represent 40 Percent of All Android Sales: Gartner

Samsung, as Apple and
Nokia are all too aware, is on a hot streak. During the first quarter of 2012,
Samsung’s smartphones accounted for 40 percent of all Android-based phones sold
globally, while no other Android-supporting vendor achieved better than a 10
percent representation, according to a May 16 report from Gartner.

Overall, smartphone sales
rose 45 percent year-over-year, with 144.4 million units shipping during the
first quarter of 2012. Lagging feature phone sales, however, caused the overall
mobile phone market to decline by 2 percent—its first decline since the second
quarter of 2009, according to the firm.

Samsung overtook …

The Champ Is Here

Our new fave in the Android realm. Photo by Ariel Zambelich/Wired

The HTC One X is one of the best smartphones on the market, and the best Android phone you can buy right now, period.

It’s fast, it’s gorgeous, it’s lightweight and it has a stellar battery that lasts all day. The camera is also outstanding. It’s the best I’ve seen on an Android phone, though it falls just short of the camera on the iPhone 4S.

It’s not just the hardware — the One X runs version 4.0 of Android, aka Ice Cream Sandwich, which is overlaid by …

We’re not waiting for Android 5 ‘Jelly Bean,’ developers say

Despite the rumors, developers are focused on making apps — and money — from today’s Android

Follow @pjkrill

Unconfirmed reports say that Android 5 “Jelly Bean” could be released this fall, featuring such improvements as Chrome browser integration, better enterprise security, better power management, and maybe dual-booting support for Microsoft’s Windows 8. Google did not respond to requests for comment about its future OS plans.

But Android developers at this week’s AnDevCon developer conference were too busy dealing with current releases like Android 4 “Ice Cream Sandwich” to stall their development efforts for yet another OS upgrade. “You …

Stock rooted 1.12.651.2-based ROM for the HTC EVO 4G LTE released before the phone

33-goodandevo[1]
Days before the HTC EVO 4G LTE’s original (and now delayed) official release, a stock rooted, leaked 1.12.651.2-based ROM has been published for it. If there was any wonder how fast root and custom development would get in motion, well, that’s been answered.

While the developer is working blind, meaning he has the code but not a phone to work on, it doesn’t look like much remains other than a final test to determine whether it actually boots or not.

I wouldn’t suggest being the guinea pig for this. Something about flashing untested ROMs on a new device with …

New preliminary release date for HTC EVO 4G LTE set for May 23

Preorder-update-bb

Best Buy is sending emails to customers who preordered the HTC EVO 4G LTE through them that a new release date has been set: Wednesday, May 23. Additionally, we are hearing that Sprint is planning to ship out their preorders prior to the new May 23 release date, although the exact shipping date hasn’t yet been determined. According to what we’ve heard, there are several factors that could potentially cause the May …

[Update] Google Appears To Have Backpedaled On Music Deauthorizations, Now Allowing More Than Four Devices To Be Removed

Well, that didn’t take long. Earlier today, we reported that Google was limiting the number of devices that can be deauthorized from your Google Music account. The official limit on Google Music devices was 10 active devices, with the proviso that up to 4 devices could be removed from your account every year. As of this moment, the Google Music help page still echoes this, but Google might be back pedaling. We’re hearing reports that some users are able to deauthorize devices after being told just this morning that they’d reached their limit. Cameron, who had already reached his …
